ALUCOBOND Exterior Cladding Evokes the Movement of a River
Riviera Shopping Mall and Entertainment Centre by Los Angeles based architecture firm 5+design is a new commercial and leisure project strategically located at the entrance to Podolsk Town, one of the most heavily populated towns in Moscow.
Cutting-edge solutions were utilised in Riviera’s architecture and design, inspired by its spectacular site in Moscow, alongside the Moskva River. Using light and its relationship to the river as driving forces for the design, the Riviera Mall goes beyond the common aesthetic of retail centres to exist as an organic form derived from the land.
The project’s exterior is clad in ALUCOBOND spectra panels which feature a wave pattern to evoke the movement of the river and reflections of sunlight on its surface. Brilliant, iridescent colours found in nature were the inspiration for Spectra colours. Through special colour pigments, various colour gradients of gloss and depth are created. Depending on the type of pigment and viewing angle, enchanting colour effects with highlights and interesting colour gradients add new visual dimensions.
The inspiring combination of the Moskva passing-by and the infinite beauty of the oceans are reflected in the state-of-the-art design. To create movement and texture, the panels are arranged along the 400 meter long façade in organic wave-like patterns. The three-dimensional ALUCOBOND cassettes shimmer naturally as the angle of the sun and cloud shadows change throughout the day. White perforated metal panels were laser cut and inserted alongside the blue ALUCOBOND in a bespoke wave pattern. On the long elevation facing the river, a series of dining terraces are composed in a rippling form on the upper levels, giving the façade a physical undulation and dynamic three-dimensional rhythm.
